New path for translators?
Translators coping with new challenges
With globalization, we witnessed the emergence of new translation demands in various fields (multilingual communication, humanitarian mediation, strategic intelligence), all of them are based on the growing importance of multilingualism and plurilingualism, which became the main criterion regarding individuals, media and tools.
With the integration of media and the control of information diffused in several languages throughout the world, the translator won its linguistic nobility by becoming a strategic actor within institutions and companies at an international escale.
Internet spread worldwide only strengthened this strategic position by further expanding the range of skills of the translator and the scope of his interventions.
From now on, he is sometimes "communicator" in several languages, sometimes "mediator" in a crisis or conflict zone and, sometimes, "multilingual watchman" looking for strategic information.
